Music for me like many others can feel like the last vestige of freedom in a world of work, work, consume. The advances in home recording, simple online distribution have made creating and releasing music extremely accessible.

But, with the ubiquitous nature of music, 10.000’s of albums at one’s fingertips with the aid of a smartphone and a streaming app, what value does music have for the masses that consume it?

Before the pandemic music venues were shuttering at a rapid rate. This has been exacerbated by the pandemic. With a convoluted rescue plan to attempt to not only save independent music venues, but attempt to save the jobs of the millions now out of work, coupled with the fact that these same venues are fighting to stay alive against venture capital that was made even stronger due to the original CARES act, what will happen to live music in the COVID age and beyond?

We’ll ask these questions and more!

Political scientist Norman Finkelstein has been an active critique of how the Holocaust is used to protect the abuses of the state of Israel. His work and advocacy have made him perhaps one of the most cancelled intellectuals in recent American history. Finklestein in fact is currently writing a book on the cancel culture phenomenon.

He is also a Non-Resident Fellow at the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft and a Contributing Editor at Jacobin.

Daniel is an intellectual historian of U.S. foreign relations.

For many reasons, Canada has been perceived as a tranquil nation lacking the social dysfunction and international bloodlust ascribed to the United States. Today we will actually look at aspects of Canadian politics and society that complicate these simplistic narratives of "Canadian Civility."
 
We'll ask, "Does Canada's humane image match its political record?
 
We'll be joined by Canadian activist Jafrikayiti.
 
Jafrikayiti, also known as Jean St. Vil, is a graduate of Waterloo University (Hon. B.Sc., Biology). He is an author, radio show host, public speaker, activist, artist and Canadian Civil Servant. He is the co-founder of two self-help organizations, AKASAN (Ayisyen ki ap soutni Ayisyen nètalkole) and Jaku Konbit, which follow the principles popularized by Marcus Garvey. He has been a thorn in the side of the Canadian government for many years, never giving up on the idea that Canada and the rest of the Core Group of influential foreign powers in Haiti could and should stop interfering in the governance of Haiti, so that Haitian people can build their own country on their own terms. "The hot new trend in the US empire is pushing African women to the front in order to make us the faces of the same old capitalist-imperialist violence. We are positioned as woke ladies with agency— kicking ass and taking names, bringing big auntie energy and those good good outfits to the day to day work of managing a genocidal settler-colonial empire. We don’t have to look any further than the examples of current US Ambassador to the UN and former high-ranking State Department official in Africa, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, or current Domestic Policy Czar and co-architect of the invasion and devastation of Libya, Susan Rice. There’s also Stacey Abrams, Condaleeza Rice, and dozens of others who’ve made muling a trend. All too often these days we are witnessing petit-bourgeois African women willingly taking positions of leadership, power, and influence within the political and military infrastructure of the United States. Positions that require, as part of their job descriptions, acts of extreme ongoing violence against the world’s most oppressed populations, including their own people.
