Gillo Pontecorvo and Franco Solinas, two Italian Filmmakers, were chosen by Saadi Yacef to tell the story of the Algerian NLF's fight against French Colonialism.
The Battle of Algiers tells the story of the initial (losing) battles from 1954-1957. It is an intense war film detailing death, destruction, torture, and bombings.

What are the origins of the term OkBoomer? Does this generational outcry stem from a reality in which discourse is controlled by youth due to the prevalence of social media, or is there a materialist socio economic basis to this framing that attempts to lay generational blame for our current reality on a certain cohort? We talk with Cedric Johnson about his latest book that details the futility of a Black Nationalist project.
Cedric Johnson
Cedric Johnson is associate professor of African American Studies and Political Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago. His book, Revolutionaries to Race Leaders: Black Power and the Making of African American Politics was named the 2008 W.E.B. DuBois Outstanding Book of the Year by the National Conference of Black Political Scientists. Johnson is the editor of The Neoliberal Deluge: Hurricane Katrina, Late Capitalism and the Remaking of New Orleans. His 2017 Catalyst essay, “The Panthers Can’t Save Us Now: Anti-policing Struggles and the Limits of Black Power,” was awarded the 2018 Daniel Singer Millenium Prize. Johnson’s writings have appeared in Nonsite, Jacobin, New Political Science, New Labor Forum, Perspectives on Politics, Historical Materialism, and Journal of Developing Societies. In 2008, Johnson was named the Jon Garlock Labor Educator of the Year by the Rochester Central Labor Council, AFL-CIO. He previously served on the representative assembly for UIC United Faculty Local 6456.

Today we’re going to talk about a genre that is extremely near and dear to the hearts of both Pascal and I. While his attachment may be visceral and sentimental, there is a large imprint this music has on my DNA in what I created with Bitter Lake, and my previous band La Fin Absolute Du Monde. We’re going to be talking about House Music. It’s origins as a unifying force for cis and gay Black males in deindustrialized Detroit, to a drug music phenomenon in the UK that was almost outlawed. We constantly ask the question if music has revolutionary potential, did house rave music possess that at one time? Or was it just on the wrong end of the right dominated anti political culture war and war on drugs era.
Our guest Jeremiah McAllister is a veteran in the house music scene having worked with its founding fathers as a keyboard player and producer.
